Sansa View Released - 32GB Model Coming Soon?
comment: 20 | Tuesday, October 23 (2007) 02:29PM | Posted by Michael
I've been waiting a long time for the Sansa View's release. Well, my anticipation was originally for the now defunct PMP prototype shown at CES in January. The new View is more akin to the e200 series. It enters into a crowded market of flash PMP's with high capacities, larger screens, and better video playback. It supports a number of codecs including, AAC, H.264, and AVI. Interested? If so, head on down to your local Best Buy and pick one up. The 16GB model is just $199, and the 8GB $149.

If 16GB (plus the microSDHC expansion) still isn't enough for you, Sandisk may have another model up their sleeves. Their site leaked info for a 32GB model, priced at $330. The price is a little steep, but we're talking about a 30GB player made entirely of flash. One of our members has already picked up the View and has provided his impressions in our forum. So far he seems fairly pleased with the player, but as of now, he has not been able to play tracks back gaplessly (as advertised). Gapless playback would certainly propel this player ahead of its closest competitors (e.g. Insignia Pilot), so we'll keep you posted on whether it's truly gapless or not. Additionally, his player has hanged on a number of ooccasions. it seems like a quick FW upgrade may be in order.

Thanks, Jeff and javamon

Update
: It looks like Sandisk has removed the 32GB listing from the View's Spec list. They've also removed pricing information. I was told that other products also listed a 32GB model so this may just be a false alarm. I'm still leaning towards it being true since they also had pricing listed for a 32GB model. We'll keep you posted if we find out more.

that is a tough choice. Video support is not the best for my taste, and sound quality and product quality is also iffy in my book.

I'm hoping they improved the interface a little. From what I've seen it resembles the e200 a lot. Battery life is quite nice, and as I wrote it supports a good amount of codecs.

It would've been nice if the interface drifted away from the E200 series, I agree.
I am also more concerned about SQ, because IMO the E200 series was sub-par, this is why I returned mine.
Anyway, from what I read in javamon's post, he said the sq was Karma like quality, so that is good news, now if only SanDisk support would improve. My E200 series experience, along with dealing with SanDisk's horrible support is what would put me off this player.

I just wish there was video out and maybe a change in interface, but overall it looks nice.

Well, it will make a good budget music listener. I don't like it.

I'm not sure what Sandisk's support is like as I've never owned one of their DAPs before but this might give you a little hope Anthony.

After the View was announced in 8 and 16GB versions, I contacted Sandisk asking about the wording of the press release and whether MicroSDHC cards beyond 8GB would be supported (the press release could be interpreted either way...).
They got back to me in just over an hour, which isn't bad IMO.

Now, like I say, I can't say about their tech support and I know that the sceptic in me wouldn't be surprised if the sales support were better organised but you'd have to hope that that sort of turnaround time is a good sign.

" Update: Looks like it could be false alarm. Pretty much every player on SanDisk's site is showing sizes up to 32GB, even the device we know damn well don't havethat much storage, like the mysterious new 8, 16, and 32GB TakeTV, e200 series, etc. "

Taken out of the engadget version of the news you've published. I believe you should update your report based on this information.
Anyway, if there is a chance of this player ever coming out - I'm more then interested... sound tasty enough for me.
Keep us updated, ssjmichael!

Kobes, where are all players listed with 32GB? In the link I provided, and also reported on Engadget only the View seems to mention a 32GB. Is it shown on a different sandisk page? I think engadget should have posted that if so.

Why would they put a price of 330 if it was simply posted for all products? That's two pieces of info that was added. Do the other pages provide prices for a 32GB model too? Thanks!

Hmm, it looks like Sandisk removed the 32GB listing from the View's specs. I assume they did the same for the rest of the models? They even took down the price listing underneath the View.

So, does this really supports .avi xvid/divx videos? Checking the manual, it only says that transferring videos requires the software, which I'm afraid means transcoding.

Their site says it supports AVI, but according to an owner (in our Sandisk subforum) it does not support Xvid files. Not sure about Divx yet.

$330 A bit steep? I'd gladly pay £165 for a 32Gb flash player considering the 8Gb P2 is going for £130 here.

the ui aesthetic is what bothers me most. i think the ui layout itself is fine, but the way it looks makes it seem that of a korean dap; all specs, no aesthetic quality. i'd redesign the UI myself for sansa and send it in for review if i had extra time, im sure designfabulous will agree with me here, this is one of the areas where sandisk fails, and unfortunately, for a very simple design, it brings down the potential of their product. its not difficult making a simple/clean/pretty ui design, shit, just hire one of these guys;
