CES 2008: iriver unveils the E100
comment: 22 | Tuesday, January 08 (2008) 01:26PM | Posted by Michael
At CES 2007, iriver impressed us with the amount of new products they announced. Sadly, many of those new products haven't seen the light of day. I didn't know why that was until now. As it turns out, they expended all of their resources creating their lineup for CES 2008! Hopefully we'll actually see players like the Spinn released this year since I'd actually like to buy the thing. Today we bring you another player that you may, or may not see this year, the iriver E100:

Unlike some of the other new players announced, the E100 did have a working model at CES. It's a no-frills midrange player, with a 2.4" display, built-in speakers, and capacities ranging from 4 to 16GB's. It also has a microSD slot for expansion. Plus all of the usual extras (FM tuner, recording, etc...). I'd have to see more of it, but I do like the player's clean look. There doesn't seem to be any fancy control scheme on the E100, just your typical D-pad controls. They're built-in the body of the player and looks similar to the controls found on the Sony S610 series. It's unclear from the pictures if these are physical controls, or touch-sensitive. Like always, we'll update you with all the details when we get them.

Ok so I like iRiver, but aren't they doing an overkill right now? Most brands have one player for each purpose, like one usb stick player, one flash player, one hdd player. But iRiver is showing us various players, while some of them don't differ so much, what makes iRiver compete with it's own products.

Aside from that, back ontopic: this player disappoints me a bit; there's not really anything special about it, and I don't like the design: it's very kiddy/plasticy.

Just need to see the battery life and I may make this my next player... Provided it comes stateside of course. Right now I'm looking at the 16GB Sansa View, but I'd much rather have the same package with iriver's style and build quality.

Absolutely ugly. Cant they just make a great looking audio player with high capacity?

Simple/minimalistic/handsome design devoid of any frou-frou B.S.!

Just The Way I Like It...

The GUI looks very nicely done, and if iRiver can keep the price right, I see this one being a solid seller, and a worthy replacement for my (often Pain In The Butt) E10... In Black/16gb!

I like it, especially the blue. Hopefully the battery life, price and codec support are right, though I can't see myself picking one up as it doesn't seem to really offer anything that moving.

holy SNAPS! now these are dead sexy! ive been thinking of a replacement for my sony nw-hd5 with a good flash mp3 player with better battery life, if these *are* indeed flash based, i pray to god they thought 'hey, why dont we cram a thick battery in there and give it a lot of juice, that should make undesign and other happy in their pants'

But overall, the whole thing looks great.....

WAIT NO!!!

What the hell is that stupid speaker doing there?!?!?!? NOONE is going to use that!!!

Great to see someone finally make a sweet looking player and then FUCK IT UP by adding that crap there!!

How does the speaker screw it up? I would feel more that way if they put it on the front, but it's on the back. It's an optional function that I could care less about.

ssjmichael: because WHY put something on an item when its completely redundant? might as well add a magnifying glass on to it if u want cheap gimmicks.

The player is dead sexy and runs circles around the holy ipod (massive eyeroll). In terms of aesthetics and gui, iriver did everything right here, but went ONE step too far with that stupid speaker, they should have realized the speaker says FAIL just by going from that samsung that was hyped so much. It tanked, and noone bought it. So why do it again?

Yes, its on the back and doesnt add a whole lot of fatness to it, but its still a very stupid decision by iriver. If they wanted to follow apples design success, they would have applied it by keeping it simple.

I see nothing wrong with a speaker, my A2 has it, and I nearly got the samsung K5 and S5 if the memory was not limited to like 4gb(8gb in the S5).

On the K5 the speakers dictated the design, they made a big impact, and almost pushed you away from it if you knew you had no use for them. Here the speakers are small and unintrusive, a positive for anyone who might have a use for them, but not really something to hold back most people who don't have a need for them.

Damn!Iriver is on fire! The only problem I can found,is that the most of this players, probabbly wont came ou that soon and the price will be too much for my wallet. They should at least release a 80/160GB this year, I need a ipod alternative, very fast.

Anyway, I like the look of this one, is minimalist and the GUI looks sweet. I'm with DaHarder...Black/16gb(well, if the price is good)

I like this design. Simple, functional, unretarded. Does iriver have bookmarking?

How can ANYBODY get excited over these iRiver DAPs after the last time iRiver showed off all these cool designs that never saw the light of day in the US?

I love iRiver as much as the next dap-obsessed geek, but come on.

iRiver Zune you said?

BTW, I like MS' colors more than these Toilet-pastel-blue and WC-pastel-rose.

I agree, what's with these sick colors dap companies want to put out? They're infantile. I want real color. Genuine saturation. Not some pansy Apple-white-wash-subjugated bullshit.
