Teclast announces the M30

Teclast is a company that seemed to slip through the doorway as Meizu was making their successful, yet controversial debut in the US. Their players certainly were nice to look out, but after you bit into this eye candy, you'd find the center to be rather sour. Their previous attempts had poorly implemented software which were full of bugs. But all of that is history now...we hope. They just announced to M30. It looks pretty good to me, but it doesn't really do a whole lot design-wise to set it apart from other players.

One welcomed addition is the improved display. It's one of the first players other than the iriver clix 2 to use an AMOLED display. These screens are superior to your typical LCD's in nearly every way. They're thinner, more vibrant, have 100% viewing angles, and have better power consumption. Here's the run-down of its features:

Features

  • Capacity: 2 or 4GB
  • Display: 2.8" AMOLED display (320 x 240)
  • Audio: MP3, WMA, FLAC, APE
  • Video: AVI (Divx, Xvid, MPEG-4, etc..), RMVB
  • FM Tuner and recorder
  • 6.8mm's thin

We don't have the complete specs yet, but it sounds nice so far. Aside from the paltry capacities offered that is. I'd like to see 8GB's or higher, or at least some sort of expansion. The player will be released in China at a price of 499 RMB for the 2GB model, and 599 for the 4GB. That's approximately $69 and $82US respectively.

It's going to take a lot more than added APE/DivX support etc to get me to invest both time and money into another Chinese DAP whose hardware promises far more than its anemic firmware can ever deliver...

Good Luck Teclast!

C'mon DaHarder, you're our resident DAP guinea pig

Maybe I'll get this one and see how good/bad it is. The probs I mentioned above was only second hand from owners like you so I'd like to give Teclast a whirl.

I love the hardware, thats usually what does it for me. Id like to try it out before buying, but life's not like that.

Looks nice, basic specs are quite ok. It's just that 4GB won't do. If you want to compete with other brands I'd say at least 16GB, and an expansion slot would be nice.
Pretty neat device though, I like the screen size.

Here's pages 4 & 5 from a PCOnline.cn article covering Oppo's new S9 player, which uses the same Rockchip 2706 as the Teclast M30. The screenshots give you an idea of what the new Rockchip is capable of:

Hopefully Teclast took the time to do something interesting as well...with a better screen than the Oppo and the Wolfson DAC, it's a nicer player hardware-wise.
