Whenever Apple announces a new iPod, it usually sets the pricing standard for its respective range. That's nice and all, but what about when the competition meets and surpasses that price? Apple is usually slow on the trigger to counter these other players. For instance, Creative surprised everyone last year when they released the Zen Stone at half the price of the iPod Shuffle ($39.99 vs $79.99).
Fast forward nine months and Apple has finally lowered the price of the 1GB Shuffle to $49.99, which is still higher than the Stone and other players in its range. Apple has also announced a 2GB model, which will retail for $69.99 when released.
