Not Totally Official: 80gb Cowon A3

Right-oh folks, seems like Cowon's fantastic PMP, the A3, is getting a long overdue memory bump. Currently the A3 is available in 30gb & 60gb capacities, but according to Dutch retailer MP3spelers there is an 80gb model on the way.

Of course there has been no official announcement from Cowon about this, but MP3spelers are known to release details early - most recently with the 16gb Cowon D2. I'm glad we could be seeing an 80gb model of the A3 as it's sort of the base minimum you would expect from a PMP these days, unfortunately the price is fairly hefty at €448, due in no small part to the expense of those 1.8" hard drives.

Any improvement is welcome, but come on now... 80gb?

This should be nothing less than 160gb by now, especially given the fact that it's a PMP

Well, consider this DaHarder, if this turns out to be real it will be the only 80gb PMP using a 1.8" HDD... I know, it really sucks that Cowon does not have the same kind of cash as MS or Apple but what can you do?

Other than the ipod classic what other DAP/PMP have reached 160gb (using those small 1.8" drives), come on DaHarder, put your money where your mouth is mate.

I'm pretty stoked that I didn't buy the A3 as yet. If this materializes I'll be one happy camper.

I just hope that along with the space bump we can at least get the battery life to increase a little(via a larger battery that is).

Thats what kept me from getting it - the so-so battery life.

Nice to see Cowon is listening...but come on 80gb on a PMP is still ridiculously small...make it 160gb and I might even buy one.
Better yet come out with a X5 replacement with 160gb and I'd be the first one to buy one.

80gb is okay, but not great. Agreed that 160gb would be ideal. I just wish Cowon would ditch the finicky joystick and use a five way directional touch pad. Also, I've read reports of warped cases and bulging batteries. I hope that they've worked out those kinds of production snafus.

They should have concentrated on that oh so crap (compared to the a2 that is) battery life
