New Archos PMPs on the Horizon.

Thanks to an unmissable banner posted on the Archos website it appears that the gen 6 Archos line up that we all knew was coming has now been bumped up to "coming soon". I know this is not news, as I do not believe any of us thought the Gen 6 were not coming but it's great that they've let us know they're "coming soon".

Really and truly i'm looking forward to what Archos has to offer. Over the past few years they've been introducing the most minor improvements to their PMPs so this year I'm expecting them to come out with a real winner, something that will make me (not a fan of Archos) step back and say "me wants". I guess we'll have to hold our breaths for a little longer though.

Thanks Rockinamigo!

I am hoping they have truly sorted out the SQ.

605 had a good go but was trampled on by Samsung, cowon and Microsoft!

I want i want!

I have had every gen! Should I stop now lol

No! Keep the faith Peck! The 605 was pretty sick, my roomie had one. I only have the xs200 and gmini400, and even those were excellent. Shame about the SQ though.

and just when we though that secret conference was a lie...

wishlist: modern PMP OS, slimmer lighter (it doesn't have to be iPod nano thin, but something pocketable enough)

things that would be nice: That rumored 3G? and open source, there are already people hacking the 605 to make it more functional, why not just give'em a free pass

I want better SQ and the battery life to FINALLY be good. I'd have an Archos if it compared to the Zunes - doubt it will sound like a D2 though.

Yeah years ago I had a hard time deciding between the A2 and the AV500, and what sold me on the A2 was the audio. I really like the AV500 as it had more space at close to the same price(60gb model that is) and the video recording was nice, but the SQ is what was a no for me. I don't care for video recording any more, but if this has good sq that can compare to let say Toshiba, MS or if lucky Sony then I may have to take a serious look at one; maybe a wide screen(3.5in) 406 8gb flash with a SD card slot.

I'm new here, and never had an MP3 or MP4 player, but am looking for my first. I've been drawn to the Archos and Cowon models, generally. I've read lots of reviews and here are the things I'd like to see changed in the Archos to make me buy it instead of a Cowon in no particular order:

1) Improved SQ.
2) SD/SDHC slot (I don't care if I buy the 160 GB model, without an expansion slot, memory is still limited. I still want the option of adding more)
3) Improved battery performance.
4) Removable batteries--I'd buy extra batteries from them just to have a quick backup to swap out
5) Enough with the nickel-and-diming us to death. Sell the DVR-station separately if you want, Archos, but everything else should be included for the price you have been charging for the base model!
6) Nit-picky detail, but get rid of the cheesy plasticky white buttons and go back to the silver ones. They look classier.
7) Touchscreen is fine, but retain the option to use buttons for "blind" use.

Oh dear.

ARCHOS 5

* A stunning Hi-resolution 5'' screen * for full-page web browsing
* Most popular audio and video format, including Flash™
* A very high capacity drive to keep all your digital library with you
* Included full-email application
* Up to 12 hours of audio playback time, and 4 hours of video playback time

* Actual size 4.8''

Massive massive fail. 12 hours. Sigh
