Two New Players From Reigncom iriver

iriver have had a turbulent time of late, but then haven't we all, today however they have leaked 2 new players - the T5 and T6. Neither player has a confirmed release date attached but we do have their prices. The T5 will retail for €50 and the T6 for €60, of course as the release of these players has yet to be confirmed we'll have to wait and see if these estimated prices are accurate or not.

The T5 (above) is a very basic "gum stick" type dap, the kind that is good for knocking around. Info on it is scarce right now but what we do know is that it supports MP3, WMA, and OGG, has a built in USB jack, it's battery life is approximately 13 hours and in terms of size it measures: 24.5 x 77.5 x 14.3mm and weighs 25.9g. Apparently it will come in black or white and in 2/4gb flavours so I am not sure how they will price each.

The other DAP iriver are going to release is the T6 (above), a really simplistic bargain player. This model will only come in 4gb but will also be available in black or white. Regarding specs there isn't anything really that will make the T6 stand out, it has the same MP3, WMA, and OGG support as the T5, battery life gets a healthy bump up to 28hrs and it will have an FM tuner with voice/FM recording abilities. The device measures a rather slender 41 x 92 x 8.8mm and looks an awful lot like the zune flash models.

Alas, poor iRiver. I knew him, Horatio: a DAP manufacturer
of infinite jest and most excellent tech: it hath
borne me on its DAC a thousand times; and now, how
abhorred in my imagination it is! my gorge rims at
it.

In other words, this ancient English major is made "meh" by iRiver. This doesn't look like anything that shoulda/coulda come from the same company that put out the H100 and H300 series as well as some of the coolest/best flash-based players around. These look like knock-offs at the local Target.

The basic dap part of the market is saturated... add to that used old players.. unless these products compete on price and/or features.. they won't be successful. Also, I think they should make the product thicker, have an internal batter, and room for 2-AAA batteries.. this way, they could easily handle 24-60 hours of playback. If sony could do 100+ hours on a tape walkman (2-aa batteries), 24-60 should be no problem for a flash dap.

Thanks for playing, kids. Cowon may have stolen me DAP-heart of late. ...or Sandisk........

Can you imagine the real possibilities had iRiver just started w/ the H100 line and developed it in a manner similar to the way (cr)Apple developed the 'pod? We'd have a 160GB H100 the size of an iPhone w/ optical in/out; a flash-mem mini-100, and; a Spinn w/optical in/out. All drag-n-drop-dead GORGEOUS!

But the bastids got 'hold of the 'River and turned it into a Mickey Mouse/Bargain Basement outfit......

Now now, CES is just around the corner and iriver is usually the only DAP company to have the best players. Sure they take long to come out but they're usually pretty decent (Spinn for example)
