Slacker Radio app now live on iTunes
comment: 17 | Tuesday, January 13 (2009) 02:33PM | Posted by Michael
I got an email from the fine folks at Slacker this morning informing me that their iPhone (and iPod touch) app is now live on iTunes. Like the Blackberry version, this app is completely free, and oh so awesome I might add.

Slacker Mobile for iPhone and iPod touch
:

-Free music library featuring millions of songs
-High-quality stereo playback from any wireless connection
-Over 100 professionally programmed genre stations
-Create custom artist stations
-Fine tune stations to play more of the music you like

-"Peek Ahead" artist and album preview
-Pause and skip songs
-Rate songs as favorites
-Ban the songs and artists you don't like

Slacker radio app at iTunes

Slacker is really going the extra mile. They've worked really hard on this app, so I'm surprised they're not charging for it. I'd gladly pay something for it if I owned an iPhone or Blackberry. Hopefully this strategy pays off for them and the service becomes a success.

Maybe that explains why they're having such a hard time figuring out why so many G1 units aren't refreshing properly.....

Well, they appear to have fixed that issue around christmas with a new firmware. Check the slacker Forums.

Already did; already flashed to latest; still having acknowledged issues w/USB refreshing, which seems to be a widespread problem...... However, I've been following the issue rather closely and the Slacker staff are aware of and working on the problem. Thanks, though.

LOVE the service! If I could get the G1 to work as the manual says it should, I'd likely upgrade the service and replace the G1 sooner rather than later. They just need to get the hardware act together....

However, if I had an iPhone or Blackberry, I'd load it up! The service really is great.

Hrm, I didn't know the G1 was still affected. I was going to get one from w00t but it sold out before I did. I can honestly say I like the feel of the g2 much better, try one out in a Best Buy.

BTW, the Slacker app DOES NOT work on either my iPod Touch/32gb (G1) or iPod Touch/32gb(G2)...

Just thought I'd see if this was the case for other Touch owners.

Hmm. At first I just wrote it as an iPhone app. Then I got another email with the official press release and they mentioned the touch as well, so I added it to the post. I wonder why it isn't working.

DaHarder, how are you trying to connect the Touch? Is wifi the only option? Other Touch owners @ the Slacker forums are reporting the app is in good working order.

Once theory making the rounds is Slacker got caught with it's pants down a bit when w00t G! buyers started trying to refresh, leading to server issues. It's possibly the same for Touch apps....

It simply states the following:

Not Compatible

This application is not cpmpatible
with this iPod

That is odd. Usually if it not a phone/gps related software it should be working fine on the Touch.

I'd like to see a J2ME or FlashLite version so as to be platform independent. Why aim specifically for only a few Mobile OSes?

Judging by the last pic, they might come to love it.

This app and Slacker in general does what Pandora has been doing for quite sometime now (on the iPhone). For iPhone owners i'm not sure where the excitement lies? Additionally, with Pandora you can skip as much as you want with their "free" (only) version, program channels, etc. Obviously if you need a portable internet radio device, Slacker is the least expensive route.

Can't use Pandora (which I prefer) on VZW phone. Lovin' Slacker on Blackberry, FTM
