The iriver P7 and P35 are both now on sale in Korea, and here is a quick overview of both devices. Please feel free to ask for further info in the comments.

iriver P35

The iriver P35 is available in 3 versions: P35 basic (8GB), P35 DMB (16GB), and P35 Wi-Fi (16GB). The Wi-Fi version is the one most people will go for and runs for about $285 USD. The P35 supports full browsing, open API widgets, and transfer of files through FTP server support. Like most recent devices, the P35 has a built in accelerometer, large touch display (4.3" WQVGA) and also features the famous SPINN wheel. Other features include an FM radio, MS Office viewer, scheduler, address book, flash player and a mintpass inspired memo feature. Surprisingly, iriver opted for QBS instead of SRS WOW this time around. Overall, the P35 is quite a nice package with a brilliant design, although the 16GB leaves more to be wanted.

iriver P7

The iriver P7 is clearly a super simple PMP, although the P35 seems pretty simple already - by today's standards. The larger 16GB version is sold at $170 USD in Korea. As most of the people already know, the P7 has a unique "magazine" like UI which clearly states the target audience of this device. The P7 also comes in a very nicely designed reusable package (visit the product page for more info). Overall, the P7 is very O2 like and sadly doesn't feature anything special. The device is absolutely gorgeous though, and predictably won both the iF and Red Dot Design awards. iriver is also offering a limited edition Lady Gaga P7 which comes with two singles and one album preloaded into the device.

SPECS:
Capacity: 8/16GB w/ microSD/SDHC (up to 16GB)

man, both of these players are very tempting for their price/design/capabilities/UI. Too bad I already have an O2.

I agree, where's the 32gb players from iriver? But, the i7 + the docking cradle, and the reusable packaging are great concepts. iriver may have a sale w/me, and J&R is a train ride to NYC for me, so I can try before I buy!!!

More disappointing after we expected 32gb just 5 days ago

Odd that they've the exact same physical dimensions.

The p7 seems more interesting to me despite the poorer video playback and lower range of colours. Seems to have more video codecs though unless I'm reading it badly.

^ Woops! Pondlife sorry for the confusion, I'll fix the dimensions for the P7.

Oh, no problem lol.

Even more interested now it's smaller, and still has the better battery life.

(Still need 32gb at least though)

Not bad, and nice to see a memory expansion clot. I'm still a little surprised at players of this size only having flash though. Does iRiver even make a HD DAP any more?

Nope. iriver and most other companies have stopped using flash memory, and I doubt they'll go back to it. Flash is cheaper to use and capacities are coming out that will eventually match what was available for the HDD DAP market. Of all the major DAP companies, only Apple and Microsoft have an HDD player selling. I think both might stray away from it this year or the next and go all flash.

^ Well, iriver still sells the P10 and P20 which are both HHD based. It seems like they'll be the last though - they are going out of stock and iriver isn't intending to make any more.

Did either of those make it to the west?

Can we count Archos as vaguely major?

Can't imagine the high capacity Apple and MS players going flash this year

Oh yeah design, I totally forgot about the P10/P20.

and yeah, I forgot about Archos too. Jeez, that was a terrible miss on my part. They're definitely a major company

I think we're overdue for a 64GB player as we've been stuck at 32GB for like 2 years. So I think either this year, or the next we're going to see Apple and others finally release one. I'm not really sure how well the iPod classic still sells, but it does seem like Apple doesn't market it like it does the nano, touch, and shuffle. I think they even called it the "classic" as a way to sort of abandon their HDD line. Otherwise it would have been called the iPod 6G.

Hm... the P7 looks very interesting to me... I have around a 10GB collection of RMVB files and it would be great to not have to convert them to view them

I think it's time for 64GBs too... we've been stuck at the 32GB line for around a year. I personally think it'll take Apple going into this category for the industry to do something about it though... That's basically what happened with 32GB and the iPod Touch.

^ I think there has been a bit of a lag in the entry of 32GB because of the recessive economy. It also seems like the price gap between 32 and 16GB is larger than 8 and 16 which is no good.

Still wondering if maybe the 8gb ones are selling better than 16gb players and so the companies don't see enough demand
