Samsung YP-R1 Spotted
comment: 14 | Saturday, June 13 (2009) 04:54PM | Posted by Michael
One of our members spotted a product page at Play UK for a new Samsung player called the YP-R1. The description lacked a photo but with a little sleuthing I was able to find one. The R1 appears to be a touchscreen device with a similar interface to the YP-Q2. It has nice set of features, as well as great codec support as indicated below:

Features:

  • Capacity: 8GB and 16GB
  • Display: 2.6" Wide WQVGA (400x240)
  • Audio: MP3, WMA, Ogg, FLAC, and AAC
  • Video: MPEG-4, WMV, H.264, Divx, Xvid,and RMVB
  • TV-out
  • Bluetooth
  • Extras: Games, FM tuner, and an E-book reader

The product page shows a release date of July 30th, and a price of £109.99 for the 8GB, which is about $180US. We'll keep you updated once we find out more.

Hmm... seems a bit bland but I'm glad that they've changed the design - the original one was hideous.

Also what is the point of this if the P2/P3 is just what .3in larger in screen size and same the equal or better specs than this? Not to mention the P3 right now can be had up to 32gb while this is still at 8gb of space.

I kind of hate to admit it, but I think this looks a little better than the P2 and P3.

I don't know, it kinda' looks like a P3 turned sideways, w/the UI in landscape mode.

I hope they refresh this player at some point, just so they have a player named the R2 (which I would immediately buy and put next to my D2).

Not entirely sure what the point is bloodycape, same price as the 8gb P3 on there which makes it odder.

Does the P3 have tvout though?

I think it is pending you get the optional cable, but I could be wrong there.

The P3 doesn't do TV out, one of the few disappointing things about it. Actually, I really can't think of anything to complain about w/the P3, only no TV out. And that's not a deal breaker.

Not bad! The 16GB version version is available. This makes sense for not adding the SD card slot
