Sandisk Sansa Clip+ Announced in Canada, "soon"? [Updated]
comment: 17 | Friday, October 16 (2009) 05:44PM | Posted by Dominic
Thanks to the forum postings of one of our Canadian DAPreview goers, ExZen, it turns out Sandisk's successor to the highly praised Sansa Clip will "soon" be available up that neck of the woods. Good news I suppose, or no news at all if you think about it. Hopefully "soon" means pretty not too distant-maybe sometime next week-future, of course it could also mean "soon" as in not that soon...it's all relative really.

I'm not too sure why the Clip+ isn't available in Canada already, logistically speaking, and as our Canadian friends are still waiting maybe those of us farther afield might yet get the clip+ before them. Of course, there's always ebay.

Thanks ExZen

Clip+ (4GB) now $39.99 at Amazon

For those in the US, Amazon has the 4GB Clip+ for $39.99, down $10 from the original price.

I want a secondary player for snowboarding, but most of my music is in Vorbis and FLAC which limits my options. This is cheap, small, and plays both those formats. Perfect.

Hope it comes out soon!

Shiftis: remember that cold temperatures drain your mp3 players battery life REALLY fast.

Lithium and NiMH should be okay down to about -4F or so.

Yeah, and you keep your player inside of your clothing. It doesn't get that cold really...

Saijin: when on the subject of temperature degrees and Canada, please post in Celsius, nobody uses Fahrenheit.

clixer; i've experienced -45 degrees (celcius) in downtown Toronto. It will have quite an effect, Canada's winters are brutal here.

Unless you carry it out in the open the entire time it should be fine. Keeping it in the jacket pocket an operating it with your hand is fine (one of the reasons I'm getting this and not the fuze) I've owned several DAP's and made them suffer through Canadian winters without any noticeable battery loss. My e260 had pretty awful battery life, but it was the same as during summer as it was during the winter.

I probably won't be using it in -30 temperature, and it will be in my jacket pocket... Maybe I'll even wrap it in a cloth if I start to experience severe battery drain. Regardless, it's cheap, and should get the job done. Plus it's MSC and has filetree view. I am in love.

If only it could create scrobbler logs...

Blech, still no luck. I'm getting desperate enough for a DAP that I might pay the stupidly expensive sandisk shipping rates (at least its 2 day I guess)

Waiting for it in futureshop is frustrating, mostly because they'll likely only carry the 4gb model anyways, like they did with the original.

Same price as ordering it from Sandisk. I'm holding out to find it for $79.99 in store.

Plus anything shipped international is subject to duty fee's, something I'd like to avoid.

The annoying part is that Futureshop won't even comment if they're getting the 8gb version or not. They only ever sold the 4g original clip in store.

shiftis: $99 seems to be real expensive I bought an 8GB from Amazon for about $63. It comes in blister package and to Canada as 1st class mail shouldn't cost more than $5 (I think).

amazon doesn't ship electronics to canada, but yeah, you could probably find a site that would...

@shiftis:

Hi Snowboarding fellow. I assume you do shiftis on air?

The Clip+ features looks really good. I use Linux, its ability to connect as USB drive is very important.

Hmm, SanDisk Canada doesn't have them in stock. Their website lists them, but not in stock, and I talked to my SanDisk supplier and he didn't have them in any of his lists.

I just bought one on eBay. $83.90 USD ($90 CAD approx) after shipping for the 8GB black... Perhaps a little much, but whatever. Cheaper than it would have been to buy it from SanDisk.ca even if they did have stock, and I don't want to wait for Canadian stores to get them.
