DAPreview Scoop: Cowon iAudio M5
comment: 14 | Tuesday, October 05 (2004) 04:48AM | Posted by Austin Vaughan
Here's what we know so far:

  • Color LCD
  • USB-on-the-Go
  • Video Playback in a limited capacity
  • Picture Viewing
  • Support FLAC, OGG, WMA, MP3, ASF, WAV
  • Includes an in-line remote
  • 1.8-inch HD, 20gb (possibly a 40gb model to follow)
  • Same size as the M3, but thicker

Thanks to DAPreview's own Mr.eXity for providing the picture. There's a thread to discuss this player over at the iAudiophile.net forums, see HERE.

Thanks Austin - please excuse my outburst in the chatbox.
    I was a bit distressed ...

Am I the only one to find its design disappointing?

dunno. I'd rather see a more uniform (brick-like?) design and some added battery life, but this will probably work just fine.

Also realize that, despite the product pic being very nice and all, it focuses on a rather curious part of the player: the part that just got bigger. If they just took a full-frontal pic, everybody would have been like "aaaarghr aaah" and so on. This is more fair, somewhat less-appealing.

instead of some useless color screen there shoud be gapless playback.

Rio Chroma who? Hopefully they are able to increase the battery life to atleast 16hrs real life testing, and then this would be the perfect player.

this thing is freaking SEXY! I love the black look that it has. Give me some more specs and I MAY just have to trade in my gmini 400.

the m5 is ugly...the shape is just odd. I dont know why people arent ripping on it like they do on the ihp series...they both have the screen hump. Specs are great, though.

agree with chicubs, the player looks sleek as, but that screen hump just kills any pretence of style... skip the color and make it thinner, alas color is one of those hot key words which everyone just jumps up and down for nowadays... o well; i wont sell here for another year anyways (At least ;P ) :D

M3 is for those like me who long for love the rich features in M3 but hates the tiny remote. For those who loves their M3. Stick with it! I personally like the look and don't mind the added thickness. I hope they don't price it out of the market especially they want to beat the competition.
One more question, does it come with the girl shown on screen???? or her phone #???
