Some more information about iRiver's new H10 has surfaced on iRiver Japan's website, as well as some additional pictures.

According to iRiver's site (and subsequent translation), the H10 will come standard with a case, while a dock (approx. $ 33 US), replaceable battery ($ 29), and remote ($ 24) will be available from iRiver's e-store after February. Other new information released on the site; the 1.5" color screen can display 260,000 colors, the H10 will have USB mass storage, and it will support FM recording.

Finally, the H10 will only be able to play music transfered using the synching iRiver Plus program.

I agree with both plan17 and chicubs, but I am especially miffed about the "crappy software needed to transfer music thing". Hopefully you only need to use the program for Legally downloaded music stuff.

It's new, and it's apparently going to function as an application to synch music files and probably make playlists, but not be able to rip CD's. iRiver has included some basic drag and drop software called iRiver music manager for some of their flash players, but that's it so far for them in the software dept. Should be interesting.

i have one of their 300 series flash players and it's great EXCEPT for the software... their Music Manager is awful! which is why i was happy that the h100 series didn't need any programs... that said, their id3 database function in the h100's was terrible too so perhaps this is a good thing. I just hope it allows uploading from the MP3 player...

You can load and play music on the H10 without the use of software. (according to my source)

If you wish to load and play DRM based music you will need to use the iRiver Plus software.

If you wish to use the database function you will need to use the iRiver Plus software.

It will be interesting to be able to view album art while listening to music...

So Jeff, since you must use the iRiver software to use the DB function, this means if you don't use the software you can browse by the file tree method?

Yes, but that is currently just a major assumption at this point. Hopefully all will be cleared up in a day. Tomorrow U.S. time is the 22nd in Korea and they go on sale so we should see Korean user reports tomorrow evening.
