Neuros Audio: the PocketPlayer
comment: 2 | Friday, January 07 (2005) 12:02AM | Posted by Austin Vaughan
Today we got a chance to meet with a rep from Neuros Audio and find out what they have planned for 2005. We were hoping to hear about a successor to the Neuros 2. If you're not familair, the N2 is an innovative player featuring a built-in FM transmitter and a modular backpack design that houses the hard drive & battery (which can be swapped with additional backpacks). Unfortunately, the modular design is also a drawback of sorts, because it adds bulk - making the Neuros noticeably bigger than other players. But people want small, and Neuros is listening. The Neuros 3, called the PocketPlayer for now, is going to be one of the mini-player type, using a 1-inch hard drive. It's stacked full of features, will retail for about $ 250, and should appear sometime in the middle of the year. Like the N2, Neuros will be releasing the firmware as open-source (soon after its launch).

About what it looks like - we only have a rough sketch at the moment and it's hard to tell what the final product will look like. We'll update this when pics become available...

Wow, that's awesome. Open source, and it's got a color screen and plays movies... decent HD too. Business card size? Man, this will be something to see, sounds a lot like the black diamond thing.

sounds great, but it looks like it won't have all the recording features of the N2. I really hope you'll find an audioplayer with decent recording capabilities like the H120 @ CES.
