Yeah, still a bunch of stuff we havn't yet posted from CES. We had a chance to play with more than 200 DAPs so there's quite a bit to tell.

LG wasn't much of a priority, but we wondered across their booth and found 3 high-capacity players on display: the LG MF-HE700 (20gb PMP), MF-HE650 (4gb PMP), and MF-HE600 (4gb DAP). The HE700 is old news, as we first reported on this one back in August, 2004. Five months later and it's still just a demo. At least, we havn't seen it for sale anywhere. The other 2 models were new to us.

HE700, Impression: it's big and chunky. Most players of this size are built around a 2.5-inch hard drive, so that's our guess. At least the screen is sharp and bright. The GUI looks pretty good, and was easy enough to figure out. The main contoller is the boring part - while it looks like a wheel, it's just a 4-way pad and select-button (in the center). An unusual element of this player is a built-in, 3.5mm line-out jack which provides both an analog and digital (optical) signal. Very few players support digital output.

The HE700 has a 2.2-inch TFT screen (65k color), 20gb HD, Support for MPEG4 and Divx Video, MP3, WMA, & WAV audio, BMP and JPEG pictures, an FM tuner, radio recording, line-input recording, voice recording, and a battery good for 10 hours audio or 4 hours video. The headphone jack is designed to support an in-line remote although we didn't see one on display.


The HE650 is a 4gb Portable Media Player which looks a good bit smalller than the 700 model. We didn't have a chance to play with it since it was secured under glass. It was playing a movie, but likely, not a fully-working model. This one features a 1.8-inch TFT screen (65k color), Support for MP3, WMA, & ASF music, MPEG4 movies, BMP and JPEG pics, FM tuner and recording, line-in recording, voice recording, USB 1.1 Host, and a removable battery.

The MF-HE600 is a plainish 4gb DAP that we covered a few weeks ago.

I couldn't find anything about these players on LG's website, so it's not clear if they plan on taking these into production.
