So yeah, we did get to see the Pioneer version of the
XM2go Portable XM Satellite Radio - it's called the "Inno" (whereas the Samsung version, which we didn't check out, goes by the name of "Helix") and yes, it's a pretty impressive little device. We're not really into XM/Satellite radio yet, but the Pioneer succeeded in getting us interested (finally!).
All the specs you need to know about can be found
here. Most importantly, the Inno houses 1GB worth of flash memory, it's small enough (3.7 x 2.2 x 0.6 inch or 93 x 56 x 15mm @ 4.5 oz or 128 gram) to fit into most pockets, there's a 180x180 pixel color TFT screen (a bit pale color-wise, in my opinion), built-in FM transmitter, MP3/WMA playback support and of course there's the ability to listen to live XM radio on-the-go. All in all, a very interesting device that surely signals a new era in radio broadcasting. Having seen the
Sirius S50 as well, I must admit I liked the Pioneer alternative way better.
Of course, there's a catch. It's the price, this time. At $ 399.99, this has got to be one of the more expensive 1GB "DAPs" out there. Now, we all know it could prove to be so much more than just a DAP, and we're anxiously awaiting any developments on the XM/Satellite battlefield. The Inno (and the Helix) is supposed to see its release in Q1 of this fresh new year. Bring it on, we say. DAPcasting is getting old already
