The last time we reported on the ibiza series, we weren't too kind. We'd all but lost hope for the company, but it looks like there's still hope for Haier's line of DAP's. They've just announced a new player at CES 2009 called the "ibiza Theatre", and it looks like we're among the first to report on it.

The ibiza Theatre has a pretty straightforward design, not unlike the hundreds of iPhone clones out there. Actually, my first instinct was that it was a re-badge of another player, but regardless the software looks to be all original. It has a decent looking touchscreen interface, and support for Rhapsody to Go. The player doesn't look bad on paper either. It has support for Bluetooth, a microSD expansion slot, and a removable battery good for 30 hours of audio playback. Check out the full specs below:

Features:

  • Capacity: 8 or 16GB w/ microSD-card expansion
  • Display: 2.4" touchscreen (320 x 240 resolution)
  • Audio: MP3, WMA, Audible
  • Rhapsody to Go
  • Video: MPEG-4, AVI
  • Extras: Bluetooth 2.0, and FM Tuner
  • Battery life: 30 hours of Audio playback (removable lithium-ion)

While this won't compete with the big boys in the latest touchscreen revolution, it does look like a respectable entry for Haier. I'm also pleased to see a removable battery; you don't see that too often anymore. The pricing is excellent as well. The 8GB model will go for $109.99, and the 16GB for just a little more at only $129.99. That's a marked improvement over previous ibiza players. The ibiza Theatre is slated for a Q2 2009 release.
