Napster's 14-day Free Trial: take advantage
comment: 9 | Monday, February 14 (2005) 07:26PM | Posted by Austin Vaughan
A blogger over at Kordix.com has laid out some simple instructions for how to save all that music you download from Napster. Basically, this is a way around the DRM protection by capturing the audio stream to a WAV file which you can burn to CD, re-encode to MP3, etc. There's sure to be some loss of quality when you transcode but at least you'll be able to keep the music and use it on any player, not just the WMA DRM-10 compatable ones (there ain't many).
This is how ya do it: 0. Download and install Napster, sign up for 14 day free trial. 1. Download and install Winamp 2. Download and install the Winamp Plug-in Output Stacker 3. Open Winamp Options > Plug-ins > Output > Dietmar's Output Stacker > Configure a. Add out_ds.dll from Winamp/Plug-ins folder b. Add out_disk.dll from Winamp/Plug-ins folder c. Select out_disk.dll in the Output Stacker->Configure d. Set the output directory and output file mode to Force WAV file e. Exit preferences 4. Load downloaded Napster protected WMAs into your Winamp playlist 5. Press play and each file will be converted to WAV as it plays 6. Burn WAVs to CD with your favorite burning program Of course, this is probably illegal and you'll burn in eternal hellfire but that never stopped anyone before. We're only posting this as a techical reference for how it could be done. via Gizmodo Latest Forum Posts
