Why would a company want to bother with integrating digicam stuff into PMPs? Sure, there have been a few attempts before, but it seems as if 1-2MP material didn't really cut it for anyone in such devices. The other way around, now that might work. Are digicams going to gobble up the PMP market eventually? Will musicphones replace MP3 players on the long run? And most importantly, will a rare breed of purple cows colonize Mars in order to dominate the Milky Way and use as slaves to build 300ft tall milk silos? The future will tell.


Anyway, back to the subject at hand: the Wixzer WXP350. Obviously, it has a built-in CMOS camera, allowing you take pictures in "whopping" resolutions (up to 1.3MP). More interesting would have to be the fact that it runs on Windows CE 5.0, has an ARM9 + Digital Signal Processor and a 4-inch (widescreen) touch display. Also in there are a 20 or 30GB hard drive, USB-Host functionality and a lithium-polymer battery that allows the WXP350 to run for about 6 hours continuously when playing movies (10 hours for audio).

The "software" part of Wixzer's webpage suggests that we can also take advantage of functionalities such as Bluetooth, Wireless Internet, an FM radio, video & audio recording, eBook compatibility, VoIP, GPS and UMS. Doesn't sound too bad. Let's hope they can get it off of the drawing boards and into the retail stores soon enough, then.
