iriver S10 is small and all
comment: 52 | Wednesday, September 13 (2006) 05:23AM | Posted by Robert Sinke
We've reported on upcoming small iriver stuff a couple of weeks ago, and now these crazy Koreans come up with cute little goods indeed. Enter, iriver S10. One hella-tiny version of the Clix/U10 concept, so it might seem.

Only putting some 17.5 grams of weight in the scale, the S10 is more lightweight than e.g. MobiBLU's Cube (2) or the Datasafe Oomi. In total the thingy measures 42 x 30 x 10.8 mm and it'll be able to play MP3, WMA, Ogg Vorbis and ASF audio files. As a comparision, the newly-announced iPod shuffle (still screenless) measures 41.2 x 27.3 x 10.5mm while weighing 15.5 grams; it was announced to be the world's "smallest DAP". The S10 is tiny alright.

Memory capacities go up to 2GB (flash mem of course) from what we can tell right now, there is a USB2.0-compatible port in there and the color screen might be tiny (1.15-inch diagonal, 65k color OLED)... but it does take up almost the entire front side and will allow for picture browsing (not sure if video compatibility is in the mix, and whether that would be very useful to begin with or not). Also, an FM tuner has been thrown into the mix - same goes for a built-in voice recorder.

Of course, there's a downside to all this "extreme compactness" broughhaha: battery life is rated at a mere 8 hours per charge. And we don't know much about retail pricing either... style doesn't come cheap, quite often. Release date is said to be "soon enough".

Update: AVing claims that the 1GB version will cost about 159k Won and the 2GB edition has an MSRP of 199k Won (165 & 209 USD respectively... keep in mind that direct currency conversions tend to be quite useless in this market branch).
