ArchosLounge reviews the Archos 204
comment: 24 | Thursday, March 29 (2007) 03:29PM | Posted by Michael
When news broke on the Archos 204, it was met with an overwhelming *sigh*. The 204 arrives pretty late to the game, and doesn't exactly improve too much on it's predecessor, the XS 202. What's the problem you ask? I'll just summarize the biggest complaints mentioned from our last newspost:
![]() Yeah yeah, it's not meant to be a video player, but why shouldn't it be? In this highly competitive market, video playback on a high capacity player is a necessity. This player looks like it was forced into the Generation 4 line of players. ArchosLounge took the player for the spin, and provides a nice video of the interface, and some great comparison pics with other Archos players, and the 5th gen iPod. Here's a rough translation of their Conclusion: "In spite of its color screen and the new “Photo” function, the 204 does not propose anything which will be able to win the crowd....Sold in the neighbourhood of 180 euros, the 204 is a good bargain on this side there, but Archos could have proposed an interface a little more pêchue that this substitute of 104. Lastly,... why not establish a video playback? I know DAP's with screens much smaller that support it. That would have given an additional argument for the 204 and knowing the good reputation of Archos in this field, that would have made this player much more tempting. In short, a little damage, one feels that Archos filled the box of the 204 a little quickly. Review + Official Page Thanks, iTrafik Latest Forum Posts
