I had 2 hours with the mintpass mintpad today, so I decided to whip out my camera and do a quick first impression of the DAP for you guys. Well, I've actually played with the numerous times, but whatever. Keep in mind that I won't go too much into the technical side of the device here; refer to my previous post: [Linky]

The first thing that you'll notice when holding the mintpad was the rather oversized nature of the device. It really does feel alot like holding a stack of post-it's, which it is trying to imitate.

The device is completely plastic but is very well built and feels like a well designed product - very much like the iriver U10.

The design is rather forgetful but still kinda cute. The curves and rounded buttons look very iriver in language; clearly showing the origins of this company. You can also see the iconic dish like curve on the screen bezzel, found on the iriver P35 and P30.

The screen is around 3" and is a nice size but the resolution and viewing angles are just not in the league of OLED displays. The screen is resistive sensitive - which is the only option cause of the memo taking feature. I prefer capacitive displays but the mintpad works very well so I won't complain here.

On the back are the 1.3mp camera and mono speaker. The camera isn't something you'll find on high-end Samsung phones but is still pretty good for a 1.3mp camera.

Well, I really can't provide an in depth review because of the lack of time I've had with it. I really wanted to test out the sound quality but I didn't have my laptop with me. It was also impossible to try out the Wi-Fi features because of the lack of Wi-Fi in the building.

I did get to take 2 quick videos. The first of shows the hardware and cold booting time.
WARNING: LOUD BACKGROUND NOISE

The second video is a quick demo on the UI.

That is a nice player... well designed. Worthy successor to the Clix which I also loved.

So what's inside this thing? I'm assuming a Telechips processor since WinCE 5 is a hallmark of theirs...anything else?

Hey, it actually looks like a nice device. Guess I was a bit hasty to judge, so thanks for the correction for me.

I don't recall ever seeing an S9 with a shiny backside. Me thinks DF had some fun with a particular technique.

^ I own the "Chrome Black" version, which is completely glossy. The one you are thinking of is the more popular "Titanium Black", which is matte.

lol, we didn't need the sound, so a completely silent vid would actually do fine.

I use the Nikon D90 - for both photos and video.
