I finally received my Onda VX747 today, and thought I'd share a few unboxing pics.

I really don't see why they would have put a cowboy on the box...

Yeah that looks a little fruity to me(the box that is. Hopefully the product is less fruity than the box.

The cowboy is Jay Chou, the biggest male pop star in the Chinese-speaking world, not counting Hong Kong dinosaurs like Andy Lau and Jacky Cheung. As is so typical in Asia, he's also crossing over into films: "Curse of The Golden Flower", "Initial D", and a new one called "Kung Fu Dunk".

Anyway, he's also a marketing powerhouse and Onda have signed him up as well. I believe DaHarder will find the back of his player features his signature and his latest album "Cowboy On The Run" comes preloaded on the VX747. The album art is on the box.

An earlier news post on upcoming Teclast M-series players featured the same photo pasted onto a rendering of the M25.

Pecker, It's an 8gb with a microSDHC slot (up to 32gb), so I gave it a - PASS LOL!

So far, so good on both the sound and video quality front (Decent Chipset: Ingenic JZ4730), though I'm extremely upset that the player is marketed as supporting the following:

- Supported Audio Codecs: MP3, WMA, WAV, OGG, FLAC, AC3, AAC, APE
- Supported Video Codecs: AVI XVID, ASF, MPG, MPEG, RMVB, RM, 3GP, MP4, FLV
- File Viewing: JPEG, TXT, BMP, PNG, GIF

Yet ABSOLUTELY NONE of my Ogg, Flac, AAC or PNG files work AT ALL!

Dom,

The firmware is certainly 'a cut above' the average Chinese MP, but it still lacks ANY ID3 support, has a 330 track/file limit (Boo!) and several feature simply don't work.

It's a decent enough player that I'll (probably) do a full review of it once I complete a few battery run down test - Sound Good?

Kung Fu Dunk is that a basketball movie meets a kung fu movie or something?

Maybe ogg and flac will be added in subsequent firmwares?

My take on the matter is: If It Doesn't Work, Don't List It As A Feature - PERIOD!
