Tony has a valid point there. I think I saw in the FCC specs that it also has DMB? Or did I read that wrong somewhere? If it does have it what is the point of getting a model with DMB certified for the American market when it is no use here.

**** why the hell did they take away the SD card slot? It was pretty much going be it's saving grace since it only goes up to 8gb. Anyone think it is possible to mass email and send them letters to get them to make this either go to at least 16gb or better yet add the SD card slot back? I guess there goes another company down the crapper, let just hope Cowon, and others stay on their game and not go on a downward spiral.

Catch up with the sheep. It's a sacreligious ceremony new flavor of the week.

^ yeah I'm not too happy with the absence of the SD card either, especially considering its top capacity is 8 gigs now rather than 16 gigs...

Well, the device does have DMB, but I guess they will be just getting rid of the module for US release. Not that much of an issue in my opinion.

My opinion is that they crippled a device that would have been an EXCELLENT alternative to most players on the market. It has an innovative design and had many of the features we had asked for. Now, regardless of the look, it's just a crippled has been with nowhere to go.

Bit harsh, don't you think?

Not really.

It could've been great, now it's just disappointing.

Sorry, just that iriver has been a complete letdown since they started releasing their new lineup. I wanted to hear how great they are - not had been.

See I don't agree, but that's because this is exactly what I was expecting would happen...so I was never excited to begin with ...

Oh, btw I'm reviewing the LPlayer at the moment... all I can say is stay away

The U10 and clix put life back into iRiver after their struggle of converting to flash from HDD.

Now they have sucked the life right back out again...

See, now the logical part of my brain knew that the players unveiled at CES would all prove to be great disappointments but they looked amazing and, being a H340 owner, I couldn't help but hope that maybe iRiver really had turned a corner...

Then again, it's this victory of hope over logic that led to me having my heart broken recently, so I suppose there's a lesson in there somewhere.

Actually, it doesn't look so bad there.
It's pretty and the specs are reasonable, although the capacity really needs to be addressed IMO and, ideally, the battery life.

But, if it reviews well and they produce a 16GB version further down the line, I think I could be suckered in.
Damn me for having hope

It is kind of pricey for 8gb @ $300. Then again if you compare it to the Sony A828 then it not bad as you get a larger touch screen and haptic feedback. The haptic feedback is actually a surprise to me. I still don't have much hopes for it as they took the SD card slot away. [angry no face]

No separation between basic, and metal mix versions.
At CES 2008, iriver pushed the concept of having a variety of materials to choose in a DAP. The Aplayer is an example where there was a selection of 3~4 types of materials. iriver was originally going to produce the 4/8GB SPINNs in plastic and the 16GB version in metal. Now the 16GB is unavailable and the 4/8GB SPINNs are both metal bodied, with a plastic back. This was probably done to reduce manufacturing costs, and may hint that the 16GB won't come out at all.

The destruction of 16GB.
The SPINN is the flagship model of iriver, and to compete with the Yepp P2 and iPod touch, a 16GB model isn't much to ask for. We'll have to see if iriver steps back into reality.

The massacre of memory expansion.
At first, the exclusion of 16GB wasn't catastrophic news for many people. This is because the concept SPINN had expandable memory. Well, guess what, iriver decided to kill that too.

An earphone port where the power button used to be.
The conceptual SPINN used to have a power button on the current location of the earphone jack. I really don't understand why iriver would place the headphone jack there, it is a horrid location for it, and a brilliant place for a power button.

Themes, fonts, and UCIs all gone.
The SPINN is considered the successor of the nearly perfect iriver Clix. For this reason, it was code named Clix2 (Clix3 for US), so UI customization is a must. However, iriver followed the route of the Lplayer and just got rid of the feature. While Samsung just gave the ability to download UCIs for the P2, iriver got rid of it.

No 3D acceleration chip.
iriver had planned to use a 3D acceleration chip to enhance the smoothness and complexity of the UI. Well, now they have a classic, and rather dull interface.
